Is there Amazon in France? ([year])

Author: Kylie Lang

Ever wondered, is there Amazon in France? I’ve got you covered.

When I first moved to France 7 years ago, one of the first questions I asked once we got there was, is there Amazon in France?

Add Life in Rural France to Google:

Having moved from the UK, Amazon was my ‘go-to’ when I needed something delivered fast.

Plus, it gave me access to some of my favourite TV Shows at the time, such as Downton Abbey and Outlander, which had just started.

So you’d think that Amazon, being the size it is, would have a dedicated Amazon France site I could use.

Let’s find out exactly what Amazon can offer if you’re moving to or spending time in France.

Is there Amazon in France?

You’ll be pleased to know there is Amazon in France, and it can be found at www.amazon.fr.

And the good news is that it’s laid out the same way as any other Amazon site, so even though it’s in a different language, it immediately feels familiar.

What is the difference between UK, US, and French Amazon?

Amazon has localised versions for different countries, including the UK, the US, and France, each catering to the needs and preferences of the local customer base.

For instance, Amazon.co.uk primarily serves customers in the United Kingdom, offering pricing in pounds sterling, and localised content such as British books, and other products popular in the UK.

Similarly, Amazon.com is the original US-based version, with prices listed in US dollars and a product range tailored to American consumers.

In contrast, Amazon.fr is the French version of the platform. Here, you’ll see prices in euros and a variety of products popular in France.

Also, the site language is primarily French.

These regional versions of Amazon not only address language differences but also offer diverse product selections, payment options, and shipping methods that align with the region’s consumer habits and logistics infrastructure.

Why you should use Amazon.fr when you’re in France

Amazon.fr is tailored to the tastes and preferences of French consumers, so you will find a wide variety of products that are popular in France.

I must admit, I still order my books from Amazon.co.uk as my French is just not good enough to read books in French.

The delivery cost can sting a bit, so I usually wait till I’m visiting my family in the UK and have them delivered there. That way, I can bring them back with me and avoid the extra cost.

Finally, you’ll likely get faster and more reliable shipping when you order from Amazon.fr when you’re in France, as the products are dispatched from local warehouses.

Is it easy to change the language on Amazon.fr

Yes, changing the language on Amazon.fr is pretty straightforward. There is a globe icon, or the French flag, at the top bar of the Amazon.fr homepage. Clicking on it reveals a dropdown menu where you can select your preferred language.

The options include English, German, Dutch, Polish, and Turkish, among others.

Once you select a language, the site interface, including product descriptions and customer service, will switch to that language, making navigation easier for non-French speakers.

Please note, however, that not all features may be available in all languages.

Can you change the currency on Amazon.fr?

Yes, you can change the currency on Amazon.fr. To change the currency, navigate to the ‘Currency Settings‘ in your account options.

Here, you’ll find a range of currencies to choose from. After selecting your preferred currency, prices of products and services will automatically be displayed in your chosen currency, making it more convenient for international shoppers.

What about shipping and delivery for Amazon France?

Amazon delivery in France is normally 1-2 days if you’re closer to a big city, but it can take longer in more rural areas.

For those living in France, Amazon Prime offers free two-day shipping on eligible items, along with access to streaming services and exclusive deals.

Plus, Amazon has introduced Amazon Locker, a self-service delivery location where customers can collect their parcels at a time that’s convenient for them.

How does Amazon Locker work in France?

Amazon has teamed up with SNCF, the train company in France, to install Amazon lockers.

To use the Amazon Locker delivery option in France, follow the steps below:

  1. When you’re checking out your items on Amazon.fr, select ‘Amazon Locker‘ as your delivery option during the ‘Choose a Delivery Address‘ stage.
  2. Choose the Locker location that’s most convenient for you. You can search by town, postcode, or landmark.
  3. Once your parcel has been delivered to the selected Amazon Locker, you’ll receive an email notification from Amazon. This email will contain a unique pick-up code.
  4. Go to the Amazon Locker location you selected, and follow the prompts on the Locker screen. Enter your pick-up code when prompted.
  5. Upon entering the code correctly, the Locker door containing your parcel will open. Retrieve your parcel within the given time frame (typically 3 days) to avoid its return to Amazon.

Remember, not all items may be eligible for delivery to an Amazon Locker due to size, weight or seller restrictions.

Is there same-day delivery on Amazon France?

A hand holding a brown amazon.fr envelope with a green background

One of the things I noticed, when I moved to France, was that same-day delivery, or even next-day delivery, wasn’t really a thing.

Occasionally, I’ve had next-day delivery, but certainly not same-day.

Having said that, my goods usually arrive within 2-4 days, and as I’m in rural France, I’m happy with that. There is never anything I need that urgently.

Plus, part of living rurally is that the pace of life is different, and that includes Amazon deliveries.

Can you ship from the US or UK Amazon to France?

Yes, it is possible to ship items from Amazon US or Amazon UK to France. However, international shipping is subject to certain restrictions.

Not all items sold on Amazon US and Amazon UK can be shipped internationally due to the seller’s shipping policies, or due to customs regulations in the destination country.

In addition, shipping charges, delivery times, and customs fees will vary depending on the item and its destination.

To check the eligibility of an item for international shipping, you can view the product details page. If the item can be shipped to France, it will be indicated in the shipping details section.

Can you get Amazon Prime in France?

A laptop with Amazon Prime Day on French Amazon on the screen

Yes, you can get Amazon Prime in France in the same way as you can in the UK and US.

Members can enjoy a host of benefits, including free, faster delivery on eligible items, access to exclusive deals on Prime Day, and unlimited streaming of Amazon Prime Video.

It’s worth bearing in mind that Amazon Prime Video usually features French programs, meaning the output language is French too. For someone like me who is still learning French, this is problematic.

But, like everything, there is a workaround, which I’ll tell you about in a minute.

Can I use my existing Amazon Prime account in France?

Good question. Not all your Prime benefits will work if you try to use a UK or US Amazon Prime account in France.

You won’t get the free delivery on selected items, you’ll need a French Amazon Prime account for that.

Plus, you’ll only get selected Prime Videos, which will be labelled ‘Watch While Abroad’, but there isn’t a great selection.

Most of them come up saying that as you’re outside your home country, these titles aren’t available.

Is French Amazon Prime membership expensive?

Prices for Amazon Prime went up substantially in 2022, especially in France, where the increase was 42%. But this year, [year], there has been no change.

However, it is comparable to other European countries, and it really depends on how much value you get from your membership.

I use Prime regularly for deliveries, so it is worth it for me to avoid the large delivery costs.

Generally, I’ve found that the cost of living in France can be a little higher than in the UK and the US.

Can you use an Amazon Fire TV Stick in France?

The quick answer is yes, you can use your Amazon Fire TV Stick in France. However, there are restrictions.

But as I mentioned above, there is always a workaround for this type of thing if you know how.

How to use an Amazon Fire TV Stick abroad

If you use a dedicated VPN to mask the fact you’re in France, you can choose the country you want to be in, and this includes the UK, the US, Canada and Australia.

Whether it’s Amazon Prime, the BBC, Hulu, HBO, or any other channels you can’t do without, you should try Stream VPN.

All you need to do is search for the Stream VPN App on your Firestick, download it and sign up for an account. You can choose your currency, and it’s not expensive.

The best part is you can use it on other devices too, not just your Firestick. I use it on both my MAC and phone.

Do they have good customer service for Amazon France?

Yes, Amazon France offers comprehensive support to their customers through multiple channels, including phone, email, and live chat.

Their website provides an extensive help section, including FAQs and guides, making it easy for customers to find answers to common questions.

FAQS: Using Amazon in France?

What is Amazon equivalent in France?

The Amazon equivalent in France is Amazon.fr. It works in the same way as Amazon in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.

Can you use Amazon France in English?

Yes, you can use Amazon France in English! Amazon.fr comes with a handy language dropdown, enabling you to navigate the site in English. This feature makes shopping a breeze, even if you don’t speak a word of French.

Where is Amazon in France?

Amazon France has its headquarters in Clichy, a suburb of Paris. However, Amazon’s presence extends throughout the country with numerous distribution centres and warehouses.

How popular is Amazon in France?

Amazon in France is very popular and is the most visited e-commerce platform in the country, with around 19 million visitors each month.

Can I use Amazon US in France?

Yes, you can use Amazon US in France! All you need to do is visit Amazon.com and order as usual. However, remember to keep in mind that international shipping rates and customs duties may apply. Also, not all products may be eligible for international shipping.

What is the most used marketplace in France?

According to recent statistics, Amazon.fr is the most used marketplace in France, closely followed by cdiscount.com and ebay.fr

How long is Amazon delivery in France?

The average delivery time for Amazon in France is between 1-2 days. Sometimes it can take longer depending on where the item is being shipped from as not everything comes directly from the Amazon France warehouse.

Why is Amazon France so expensive?

The cost of doing business in France is substantially higher than in other countries, and this definitely has a knock-on effect when it comes to services such as Amazon. Plus, Amazon France, similar to other international Amazon platforms, determines its prices based on a variety of factors.
These can include shipping costs, taxes, import duties, and market demand. In some cases, items sold on Amazon France might be priced higher due to the Value Added Tax (VAT) that is applicable in European countries. Additionally, import charges for certain products and shipping costs can further increase the price of items.

Final thoughts: Is there Amazon in France?

I love that there is Amazon in France because I do use it regularly, due to being quite rural. Sometimes, if I can’t get what I need locally, being able to order online and have it delivered in 1-2 days is brilliant.

Amazon Prime works well for me as, on average, I order at least once a week, and most things fall under the Prime free delivery.

So for me, Amazon is a great way to get those ‘hard to find’ things in my local shops. And whilst I’m a big supporter of shopping locally and supporting the local farmers and community, there are certain things I just can’t get locally.
