It can be a little overwhelming if you’ve never been to Paris and you’re planning your first trip. If you only have three days, what are the “must-see” attractions? How much can you fit into one day without being completely exhausted?

Planning the perfect Paris itinerary can be daunting, especially for first-timers. Basing yourself in the wrong part of the city can make it difficult to get to all the hotspots, and booking a hotel miles away from the Metro can be problematic.

Then there are attractions. Which ones are worth seeing and adding to your bucket list, and which could be left off? Before you start going into a Parisian panic, I have something that will help: a three-day planned itinerary you can download for free with everything you’ll need to make your trip easier.

The Perfect 3-Day Paris Itinerary

The first thing to remember when visiting Paris or any major city is that packing too much into one day will leave you shattered. By the time you get to day three, you won’t want to move, and your feet will throb. I’ve made this mistake myself, and you don’t enjoy your time as all you can think about is how tired you are.

Another classic mistake I see time and time again is people having no idea how to navigate the city. They spend most of their time on the metro, as the attractions they’ve planned to see are nowhere near each other. Again, I’ve been guilty of this, so I am all too aware of how easy it is to do.

Of course, there is no one-size-fits-all when planning a trip to Paris. It depends on what you enjoy and whether you have any non-negotiable places on your bucket list. However, as someone visiting Paris for the first time, you’ll undoubtedly have some things on your list that are common to many.

Top Tips on Visiting Paris for the First Time

Take Advantage of Free First Sundays

If you visit on the first Sunday of the month, many of Paris’s museums offer free entry. This includes popular museums like Musée Rodin, Musée Picasso, and Musée d’Orsay. The Louvre is the odd one out and does the first Friday of the month after 6 pm. It’s a great opportunity to explore more art and culture, even though it might be a bit busier.

Make Use of Vélib’ for City Exploring

The Vélib’ Métropole is a public bicycle-sharing system in Paris that many locals use for short trips around the city. It’s economical and allows you to see the city from a different perspective, weaving through areas like the narrow streets of Le Marais or along the Seine.

Consider the Paris Museum Pass

If you plan to visit multiple museums, this pass offers access to over 50 museums and monuments and can be a cost-effective way to see more during your stay. Get your Paris Museum Pass here >>>

Invest in Skip-the-Line Tickets

Attractions like the Versailles, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and the Catacombs can have long queues, so booking skip-the-line tickets can save you time, hassle, and, in some cases, disappointment.

Stay Connected with a Prepaid SIM Card

To easily navigate and stay connected during your trip, consider buying a prepaid SIM card, which can be more convenient than searching for Wi-Fi spots.

TRAVELLING TO FRANCE?

Here are my favourite resources I use each time I travel!

🧳 I always protected my trips with this travel insurance company when I lived in the US AND this one now I live in Europe

🚘 I found a car rental for $500 less than traditional sites with this car rental agency

🚌 🍷 My favourite platform to find Day Trips and Wine Tours in France at the best price and with great reviews

🚂 The cheapest train tickets are always on this App

🏨 I got a 20% discount on a chateau hotel with this hotel booking tool

I personally use these sites myself and if you use them, they will earn me a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps reduce the ever-increasing cost of maintaining my blog and writing about France. Thank you!
