It doesn’t get any better than sipping a glass of wine and looking down at the City of Light spread out before you with the Eiffel Tower twinkling away. It is one of those vacation pinch-me moments we all dream about.

When I first visited Paris nearly twenty years ago, the options for rooftop bars and getting a birds-eye view of the city were limited. Now, we’re spoilt for choice. From rooftop escapes with Peruvian flair to Cuban-inspired decor and garden terraces, the options are endless.

What are the Arrondissements in Paris

Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, or districts, each with its own personality, pace, and perspective. They spiral out from the center like a snail shell, starting with the 1st on the Right Bank and winding their way around the city. Locals often refer to them by number, but once you spend some time in Paris, you’ll start to feel the difference, from the history of the 5th to the village feel of the 20th.

1st Arrondissement

The 1st arrondissement is an intoxicating mix of haute couture, historic attractions, museums, parks, and shopping, with the largest mall in Paris. Known as La première, it’s the original heart of the city. It’s where Marie Antoinette spent her final days in the medieval Conciergerie, where the world’s most famous painting, the Mona Lisa, hangs in the Louvre, and where you can enjoy a hot chocolate at Angelina tea room, Coco Chanel’s favorite spot. 

Le Jardin de Cheval Blanc

Le Jardin feels more like a private rooftop garden than part of Cheval Blanc, a luxury hotel on the Pont Neuf. Expect luxury, but softened by greenery and calm, the perfect escape from the hustle of the city below. You also have a great view of the Eiffel Tower. It’s the kind of place where you settle in and forget about checking your phone.

ROOF

ROOF is one of the biggest rooftop spaces in Paris, and it has recently reopened. It’s on top of Hôtel Madame Rêve, with views that take in everything from Notre-Dame to the Pompidou. The space is huge and leafy, and more garden than bar, with a lovely laid-back feel.

2nd Arrondissement

The 2nd arrondissement is compact but full of surprises. It’s home to Paris’s oldest covered passageways, once the stomping ground of writers, revolutionaries, and people who knew how to shop without being seen. Today, you’ll find tucked-away wine bars, independent boutiques, and the Bourse de Commerce, now a striking contemporary art museum funded by billionaire François Pinault.

Sequoia Rooftop – Kimpton St Honoré

Sequoia feels like a hidden terrace above the buzz of the Grands Boulevards. It sits on top of the Kimpton St Honoré, and the vibe is low-key elegance with great cocktails and a wraparound view that lets you pick out the Eiffel Tower, Opéra Garnier, and Sacré-Cœur in one sweep. It’s the kind of place you head to when you want good drinks and better company, without the crowds.

4th Arrondissement

The 4th arrondissement is packed with postcard views and heavy on the history. It covers the eastern half of the Île de la Cité, where Notre-Dame still stands proud despite the fire, and the Île Saint-Louis, one of the city’s quietest, most atmospheric spots. You’ll also find the medieval Marais here, the striking Hôtel de Ville, and streets full of falafel, fashion, and stories that go back centuries.

Bonnie

Bonnie is one of those rooftops that makes you stop mid-conversation just to take it all in. Set on top of the SO/ Paris hotel, it has a mirrored ceiling that shifts with the light, immersive art installations, and a wraparound view that hits just about every Paris landmark. The vibe leans retro-glam with a hint of disco, but the terrace is the real draw. Come for dinner, drinks, or their new “Power Lunch” — 45 minutes, 45 euros — if you’re short on time but still want the view.

Chez Mylène – Rooftop at BHV Marais

Chez Mylène sits above the BHV Marais department store, but it doesn’t feel like you’re on top of a shop, more like you’ve stumbled across a local hangout with one of the best views in the city. It’s casual, unpretentious, with a spicy Latina vibe. From the terrace, you get a straight shot of Hôtel de Ville and a glimpse of Notre-Dame. A great spot to unwind after exploring the Marais.

5th Arrondissement

The 5th arrondissement is one of the oldest parts of Paris, and you can feel it in the bones of the streets. This is the Latin Quarter, where students have debated, drunk, and fallen in and out of love for centuries. It’s home to the Panthéon, the Sorbonne, and Roman ruins, but also tiny bookshops, wine bars, and cafés that haven’t changed in decades.

Le Toit de la Tour – Tour d’Argent

Le Toit de la Tour is the rooftop of the legendary Tour d’Argent, one of Paris’s oldest and most iconic restaurants, with views that sweep across the Seine and take in Notre-Dame, Île Saint-Louis, and the rooftops of the Left Bank. You’re here for the setting as much as the drinks. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay a while, even if you’re just stopping in for a glass of champagne.

The 7th arrondissement is where the Eiffel Tower lives. Tourists come for the photo ops, but there’s more to this area than just the Iron Lady. You’ve got the Musée d’Orsay, Les Invalides, and quiet residential streets that feel a world away from the crowds just a few blocks over. 

10th Heaven

10th Heaven is a rooftop that feels like a secret, because it is. On the 10th floor, 10ème Ciel, top of the Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel, this ephemeral spot opens for just a few days each year. When it does, you’re treated to an up-close view of the Eiffel Tower, with cocktails and Italian tapas served under a glass roof that keeps the weather out and the atmosphere in.

8th Arrondissement

The 8th arrondissement is where Paris goes to impress. It’s home to the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe, and some of the city’s most famous fashion houses. You’ll find five-star hotels, embassies, grand Haussmann buildings, tucked-away courtyards, and restaurants.

Perruche – Printemps de l’Homme

I know you shouldn’t have favorites, but this one is mine, and it probably has something to do with the fact that my favorite champagne brand, Veuve Clicquot, designed it. You feel like you’ve stumbled into a summer garden party. It’s nine floors up, with Paris spread out around you. Set above Printemps Haussmann, it’s all lemon-striped cushions, leafy plants, and a view that stretches from the Opéra to the Eiffel Tower. The menu leans Mediterranean, with dishes like grilled prawns and tarte tropézienne, and the cocktails are just as sunny.

Aqua Kyoto

Aqua Kyoto opens June 2, and it’s already one to watch. It’s up on the seventh floor with views of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Grand Palais, and Montmartre all in one go. A proper sweep of the city. The look is clean and understated with Japanese touches, and the menu leans into sushi and sashimi done with precision.

9th Arrondissement

The 9th arrondissement sits between the glitz of the 8th and the grit of Pigalle, and has a bit of both in the best way. It’s home to the Palais Garnier, old-school brasseries, and the famous department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps with their domed roofs and grand staircases. Walk a few blocks and you’ll find quieter streets, wine bars, and that slightly faded elegance Paris does so well.

Créatures

Créatures is a seasonal rooftop spot with Chef Julien Sebbag that opens each summer on top of Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. It’s all about laid-back, open-air dining with a view that stretches from the Opéra Garnier to the Eiffel Tower. The menu is 100% vegetarian, with dishes like the “Summertime Sadness” focaccia and a roasted sweet potato plate. Mornings start with pastries and coffee from the on-site bakery, and the vibe shifts seamlessly into sunset cocktails and shared plates as the day goes on.

11th Arrondissement

The 11th arrondissement is where Paris sheds its polished veneer and gets real. Once the stomping ground of revolutionaries and artisans, it’s now a buzzing mix of old-school grit and new-school cool. From the historic Place de la Bastille, the spark of the French Revolution, to the vibrant nightlife of Rue Oberkampf, this district pulses with energy day and night. It’s where cobblestone streets meet cutting-edge art spaces, and where every corner café has a story to tell.

Rooftop Eminente

Rooftop Eminente feels like a slice of Havana tucked away above the Drawing Hotel. It’s small, just 30 seats, but the vibe is big: rum cocktails, Cuban tapas, and a view over the rooftops that makes you forget you’re in the middle of Paris. The cocktails, crafted by bartender Adrian Niño, are all about Eminente rum, with options like the coconut-washed daiquiri or a smoky Negroni twist.

13th Arrondissement

The 13th arrondissement is a patchwork of contrasts. On one side, you’ve got the towering high-rises of the 1970s, part of the Italie 13 urban renewal project, and on the other, the village-like charm of Butte-aux-Cailles with its cobbled streets and art-covered walls. It’s home to Paris’s largest Asian quarter. It’s also home to the modern Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand, a testament to contemporary architecture and a hub for literature enthusiasts.

TOO Tac Tac

TOO TacTac is the highest rooftop bar in Paris, sitting 130 meters up on the 27th floor of the TOO Hotel in the 13th arrondissement. The view is a full 360-degree sweep of the city, the Eiffel Tower, the Seine, and Montmartre all laid out beneath you. The vibe shifts from laid-back sunset drinks to full-on party mode with DJ sets and live music from Thursday through Saturday nights. The menu has Asian-inspired small plates like spicy tuna maki, gyozas, and tacos.

15th Arrondissement

The 15th arrondissement is where Paris slows down a bit. It’s the city’s most populated district, but you wouldn’t know it walking through its quiet residential streets. Once home to Citroën factories and the village of Vaugirard, it’s now a mix of modern towers, leafy parks, and everyday Parisian life. You’ve got the Parc André Citroën with its tethered hot air balloon, the lesser-known Île aux Cygnes with its own Statue of Liberty, and the towering Tour Montparnasse offering some of the best views in the city.

Skybar Paris

Skybar Paris is the kind of place you go when you want the city at your feet and a cocktail in hand. It’s on the 32nd floor of the Pullman Montparnasse and holds the title for the highest open-air rooftop bar in the city. The views are as dramatic as expected: the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur, and the whole city stretched below. There is an Asian-inspired menu featuring creative snacks like foie gras with mango chutney and beef tataki with black truffles. Come Thursday through Saturday, DJs take over, and the place shifts from sunset lounge to full-on party mode.

Pedzouille La Grange

Pedzouille La Grange is my type of place. It isn’t your typical rooftop bar; it’s more like rural France in the middle of Paris, offering a countryside feast. It’s eight floors up with long wooden tables, fire-grilled meats, and a view of the Eiffel Tower that feels almost surreal in this rustic setting. The menu leans into hearty French classics: Charolais beef, Landes duck, and even a Camembert flambéed with Calvados. Drinks are just as fun, with a speakeasy called Le Cracra serving cocktails like the “Mojito de Maurice.” It’s loud, fun, and unapologetically French, more like a village fête than a rooftop lounge.

16th Arrondissement

The 16th is all wide boulevards, embassies, and elegant townhouses. This is where you’ll find the Bois de Boulogne, the city’s second-largest park, offering a green escape with lakes, trails, and even a small amusement park, the Jardin d’Acclimatation. The area is also home to cultural spots like the Fondation Louis Vuitton, housed in a striking building designed by Frank Gehry, and the Musée Marmottan Monet, which has the largest collection of Monet paintings in the world.

Molitor

Molitor has history baked into the tiles. It opened in 1929 as Paris’s most fashionable swimming pool, hosted the first bikini launch, then fell into ruin before being reborn as a luxury hotel. These days, the rooftop is relaxed, with views over the pool below and Roland-Garros just in the distance. It’s a proper escape without leaving the city with a lovely art deco touch. You might recognize it from Emily in Paris (Season 3, Episode 5), where Emily and Mindy turn up for a rooftop party.

Villa Minuty and Le Rooftop du Brach

Le Rooftop du Brach is a proper curveball. You head up expecting the usual hotel rooftop, and instead you find a vegetable patch, a chicken coop, and a full-on kitchen garden in the sky. It’s part of the Brach Hotel, designed by Philippe Starck. It’s laid-back, earthy, and the view of the Eiffel Tower doesn’t hurt either.

Villa Minuty is the summer makeover that feels like a slice of the Riviera dropped into the 16th arrondissement. It’s a seasonal collaboration between the Brach Paris hotel and Château Minuty, the iconic Provençal rosé producer.

18th Arrondissement

The 18th arrondissement is a neighborhood of contrasts, where Paris’s bohemian past meets its multicultural present. At its heart is Montmartre, a hilltop village that once lured artists like Picasso and Van Gogh with its cheap rents and panoramic views. Today, its cobbled streets still buzz with creativity, from the easels in Place du Tertre to the vineyards of Clos Montmartre.

But venture east, and you’ll find the Goutte d’Or, a vibrant enclave known as “Little Africa,” where markets brim with spices, fabrics, and rhythms from across the continent. It’s this blend of old and new, of tradition and transformation, that gives the 18th its unique energy.

Le Bar à Bulles

Montmartre is one of my favorite arrondissements to spend time in, and Le Bar à Bulles is the kind of place you stumble upon and feel smug for knowing about. Tucked behind the Moulin Rouge, up a quiet passage called Cité Véron, it’s part rooftop, part secret garden, and entirely unexpected. You’re in the middle of Pigalle, but it feels like you’ve slipped into someone’s bohemian backyard. The terrace is dotted with Japanese maples and mismatched chairs, while inside it’s all velvet banquettes, vintage lampshades, and a cozy, lived-in feel. It’s a little piece of Montmartre magic.

20th Arrondissement

The 20th arrondissement is rougher around the edges. This is where Paris feels lived-in, loud, and layered, from the street art of Belleville to the cobbled alleys around Père Lachaise.

Le Rooftop de la Bellevilloise

Le Rooftop de la Bellevilloise feels like a secret garden in the heart of Paris with panoramic city views. The decor is a mix of Mediterranean and vintage styles, with lush greenery, eclectic furniture, and artistic touches that reflect the neighborhood’s creative spirit. It’s a place where you can unwind with a cocktail, enjoy some tapas, and soak in the sunset without the usual rooftop pretentiousness.
